معرفی
Patrick Forterre is a renowned Professor at the Institut Pasteur, specializing in molecular biology and evolutionary microbiology. He is also an Emeritus Professor at University Paris-Saclay. His roles include leading research units and departments, such as the 'Biologie Moléculaire du Gène chez les Extrêmophiles' at the Institut Pasteur and former leadership in the Microbiology Department at the same institute. He holds a Doctorat d’Etat from Université Paris VII (1985) and has extensive experience in research spanning over four decades.
His research focuses on evolutionary genomics, archaeal biology, and the origins of viruses and life. Key interests include the universal tree of life, extremophile adaptation, and mechanisms of DNA replication and topoisomerases. He has received prestigious awards like the ERC Advanced Grant (EVOMOBIL) and membership in the European Academy of Microbiology.
His publications highlight contributions to archaeal phyla classification (Thaumarchaeota), virocell concepts, and the role of viruses in evolution. He has led multiple scientific initiatives, including founding the Institut Fédératif de Recherche on genome studies and advising global programs in extremophile research and biotechnology.
