Patrick Drayna, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and serves as Director of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for the Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Children's Wisconsin. He is also the Medical Director of POCUS at Children's Wisconsin Emergency Department and Trauma Center. His clinical focus includes pediatric emergency medicine, trauma care, and ultrasound applications in acute settings. Dr. Drayna completed his MD at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (2006), pediatric residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin (2009), and a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (2012). He further specialized in emergency POCUS through a fellowship with the Ultrasound Leadership Academy (2018).
His research emphasizes POCUS education, pediatric emergency ultrasound protocols, and improving clinical workflows. Notable contributions include developing age-based bladder volume nomograms and optimizing pelvic ultrasound turnaround times. He has also contributed to consensus guidelines for pediatric trauma triage and EMS transport protocols. Dr. Drayna's work bridges clinical practice, education, and innovation in pediatric emergency care.
His publications span topics such as pediatric trauma systems, prehospital care challenges, and antibiotic stewardship in penicillin allergy cases. He actively collaborates on multidisciplinary projects to enhance pediatric emergency care outcomes through evidence-based approaches.
