Patrick D. Herron, D.Be., is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Family & Social Medicine and Epidemiology & Population Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in Biomedical & Bioethics Research Training. He serves as a Clinical Ethicist at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics and holds an adjunct role as Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. His career includes leadership roles such as Director of Bioethics Education and Co-Director of the Introduction to Clinical Medicine program at Einstein.
Dr. Herron earned his Doctor of Bioethics from Loyola University Chicago, Master of Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania, and Bachelor of Science in Special Education from West Chester University. His research focuses on medical education, bioethics, clinical ethics, and innovative educational technologies.
Notable awards include the Vivien T. Thomas Award (2015), Samuel M. Rosen Award for Outstanding Teaching (2017), and induction into the Leo M. Davidoff Society (2017). He has contributed to the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) and served on the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care (APHC) Board of Directors (2017–2021).
His scholarly work spans medical professionalism, inter-professional education, violence prevention, and integrative medicine. He actively engages in faculty development initiatives and patient advocacy efforts, reflecting his commitment to holistic healthcare education and ethics.
