Patrick Carrington is an Associate Professor in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) at the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. His research explores technology's role in enhancing human ability, empowerment, and quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities, focusing on accessibility, wearable tech, and assistive systems.
His research interests span:
- Accessibility: Non-visual interaction, inclusive design for disabilities, and assistive tech development
- Human-Computer Interaction: User experience, physical computing, and multi-modal interfaces
- Emerging Applications: Cooking/art accessibility for blind users, autonomous vehicles for mobility impairments, and inclusive AI
His 50+ publications primarily appear in ACM CHI, ASSETS, and DIS conferences, with themes centering on disability inclusion, user-centered design, and innovative accessibility solutions. Recent work explores VR, LLMs, and embodied interaction for marginalized communities.
