Dr. Patricia Ward is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Faculty of Sociology at Universität Bielefeld, specializing in Media Sociology within the Department of Sociology. Her work focuses on Global/Transnational Sociology, Humanitarian Aid, Labour Studies, Migration, and Mobility. She holds a PhD from Boston University (2020) and has held prior positions at TU Dresden and the Max Planck Institute.
Her current research examines global humanitarian aid dynamics through a DFG-funded project titled “Many Moving Parts: Continuity, Disruption and Change in Global Humanitarian Aid Relations.” She has received numerous grants, including from DFG, DSF, and TU Dresden.
Key research interests include the sociology of humanitarian logistics, labour practices in crisis contexts, and transnational aid relations. Her recent publications explore topics like humanitarian professionals, refugee volunteer valuation, and logistical framing of human movement.
Ward is affiliated with international organizations including the International Sociological Association and German Sociology Association. Her work bridges ethnographic fieldwork with critical analyses of aid sector dynamics and global South research methodologies.
