Patricia Rubin

Prof. Dr. Patricia Rubin is a renowned art historian specializing in Renaissance art, particularly Florentine art and culture. She has held visiting positions at institutions like the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and Harvard University's Villa I Tatti. Her academic career spans over four decades, with a focus on integrating material analysis, historical context, and interdisciplinary approaches. Rubin earned her BA from Yale University and her PhD from Harvard University, where she began her foundational work under Dr. Klara Steinweg at the Institute of Fine Arts.

Her research explores themes such as the history of collecting, portraiture, altarpieces, and the interplay between art and social identity. Notable publications include Giorgio Vasari: Art and History (1995) and Images and Identity in Fifteenth-Century Florence (2007). She has curated major exhibitions, including Renaissance Florence: The Art of the 1470s, and co-edited influential volumes like Art, Memory, and Family in Renaissance Florence.

Rubin has held leadership roles, such as founding Director of the Courtauld Institute of Art Research Forum and Deputy Director of the Courtauld Institute.
