Professor Patricia Pulham is Head of the School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries at the University of Surrey and a leading scholar in Victorian literature. She holds a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London (2001) and has held academic roles at Brunel, Goldsmiths, Birkbeck, QMUL, and the University of Portsmouth, where she served as Director of the Centre for Studies in Literature. Her research focuses on 19th-century literature, visual cultures, Decadence, Aestheticism, and Neo-Victorianism. She has edited multiple journals and volumes, including Volupté and , and authored influential works such as The Sculptural Body in Victorian Literature. Current roles include President of the British Association for Victorian Studies (BAVS) and membership in the AHRC and UKRI panels. Awards include Fellowship of the English Association (2025) and membership in Academia Europea.
Her advising includes supervising numerous PhD completions and examining international theses. She actively mentors students researching decadence, Victorian visual cultures, and neo-Victorian fiction. Her leadership roles at Surrey and Portsmouth have shaped humanities research agendas, particularly in interdisciplinary Victorian studies. Professional activities include editorial board memberships and conference organizing, contributing to scholarly networks across Europe and beyond.
