Patricia Melzer is an Associate Professor of German and Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at Temple University. She specializes in feminist and queer theories, German cultural history, and the role of women in radical social movements. Her research explores intersections of gender, politics, and violence, with a focus on feminist critiques of political extremism.
Education & Teaching: Melzer teaches German language and cultural history courses, alongside gender and social movement studies. Her academic career is rooted in interdisciplinary scholarship combining literature, history, and political theory.
Research Interests: Her work examines feminist and queer frameworks applied to cultural texts, particularly analyzing women’s participation in left-wing movements like the Red Army Faction (RAF). Recent studies investigate how political violence by women challenges traditional feminist theories.

Affiliations: She directs Temple Summer in Germany, an intensive German language program in Leipzig, and oversees Education Abroad initiatives at Temple University.
