Patricia Kearney is a Professor of Epidemiology at University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. She holds academic roles in Public Health within the College of Medicine and Health. Her primary affiliations include leading the TRUST clinical trial on subclinical hypothyroidism and chairing the cardiovascular working group for TILDA, the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing. She has supervised numerous PhD students and holds significant grant funding, including €5 million since 2008. Her research focuses on cardiovascular disease prevention, diabetes management, and clinical trial methodologies.
Educated at UCC (MB BCH BAO, 1998), she completed a MPH (Tulane University, 2002) and PhD in Public Health (2006). She has held prestigious fellowships, including the Wellcome Trust (2003) and NIH-funded Beeson Fellowship (2007). Awards include the HRB Research Leader Award (2013) and UCC Researcher of the Year (2018).
Her research interests span lifecourse epidemiology, chronic disease burden, and global health. Notable contributions include landmark work on statins in diabetes (Lancet) and leadership in EU-funded clinical trials. She collaborates internationally, co-chairing the ASPREE trial and leading interdisciplinary teams.
