Patricia J. Saunders is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences, where she also serves as Director of Graduate Studies and Faculty Lead for Hemispheric Caribbean Studies at the University of Miami Institute for Advanced Study (UMIA).
Her research focuses on Caribbean literature and culture, with particular emphasis on gender, power dynamics, and identity formation in Anglophone Caribbean literary traditions. She examines how Caribbean writers negotiate questions of belonging, displacement, and cultural translation through literature.
Her scholarly work spans from 2007 to 2022, including two major books: Alien-nation and repatriation: translating identity in Anglophone Caribbean literature (2007) and Buyers Beware: Insurgency and Consumption in Caribbean Popular Culture (2022). Her articles appear in prestigious journals including Small Axe and Contemporary French and Francophone Studies.
