Patricia Bijttebier is a full professor at the KU Leuven Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, where she chairs the School Psychology and Development in Context unit and directs the KU Leuven Child & Youth Institute. She serves on multiple university councils and program committees, including the Academic Council and the Faculty Council.
Her research focuses on developmental psychology, particularly attachment theory, environmental sensitivity, and emotional well-being in adolescence. Current projects include longitudinal studies on attachment representations, gene-environment interactions in mental health, and media effects on adolescent development.
Her recent work explores epigenetic mechanisms in stress-related internalizing problems, interpersonal emotion regulation in digital contexts, and biopsychosocial pathways linking parenting practices to adolescent behavior problems. She supervises numerous doctoral candidates and collaborates across disciplines in developmental science.
