Patricia Ballamingie is a Professor in the Department of Geography at Carleton University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a B.A.H. from Queen’s University, an M.E.S. from York University, and a Ph.D. in Geography from Carleton University. Her research focuses on food policy governance, environmental conflict, and deliberative democracy. She leads and co-investigates major projects including the SSHRC Partnership Grant FLOW Partnership ($4M, 2023–2028) and the SSHRC/CMHC Partnership Grant A Safe and Affordable Place to Call Home ($4.8M, 2023–2028).
Her work emphasizes community-based solutions and participatory approaches, reflected in roles like Co-Director of FLOW and Advisory Committee Member for the UNESCO Chair on Food, Biodiversity, and Sustainability. She has advised on national initiatives like Food: Locally Embedded, Globally Engaged (FLEdGE) and Community First: Impacts of Community Engagement (CFICE). Ballamingie has published extensively on food systems governance, environmental justice, and Indigenous-settler relations.
