Professor Pat Palmer holds the Chair of Renaissance Literature at Maynooth University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her research focuses on early modern Irish cultural encounters, colonialism, and translation studies. She previously held positions at the University of York (2000–2008) and King’s College London (2008–2016).
Palmer earned a D.Phil. in English Literature from the University of Oxford, following an MA from University College Cork. Her work explores linguistic colonization, violence, and cultural complexity in early modern Ireland through publications like *The Severed Head and the Grafted Tongue* (2014) and *Language and Conquest in Early Modern Ireland* (2001).
She leads the MACMORRIS Project, a digital humanities initiative mapping cultural activity in early modern Ireland. Awards include the Irish Research Council Advanced Laureate (2019). Her research bridges literary analysis, historical scholarship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Palmer’s recent projects include a monograph on early modern Irish literary cultures and contributions to *Early Modern Criticism in a Time of Crisis* (2022). She also engages in outreach with the CMAP: The Human City Project in Nigeria.
