Pat Giersch is the Edith Stix Wasserman Professor in Asian Studies and Professor of History at Wellesley College. His research focuses on the intersection of empire and ethnicity in Qing China’s Southwest, business history, and the links between state-building, economic development, and inequality. He teaches courses spanning Chinese history, comparative global history, and the evolution of international commerce.
