He holds an honorary professorship at Obuda University (Hungary) and previously served as a Contract Professor at the University of L’Aquila for 19 years. He received his Laurea (1995) and Ph.D. (2000) in Electronic Engineering from the University of L’Aquila.
His research integrates mathematical control theory with biological applications, focusing on:
- Stochastic systems and nonlinear filtering for biomedical engineering
- Artificial pancreas development for diabetes management
- Tumor growth control via antiangiogenic therapy
- Metabolic and cell cycle modeling in systems biology
He leads the Palumbo Lab and received editorial awards from Kybernetyka (2013) and IET Systems Biology (2018). He serves on editorial boards of PLoS ONE, Frontiers, and Mathematical Problems in Engineering.
He has supervised 80+ theses and coordinates international collaborations across Europe and the US. His active 2023 project develops clinical validation methods for an artificial pancreas targeting type 2 diabetes.
