Pasi Kolari is a University Researcher at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) within the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki. He serves as a Supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Atmospheric Sciences and has been actively contributing to atmospheric and ecosystem research for over two decades, with his publication record dating back to 2004.
His research focuses on micrometeorology and biogeochemical cycles in ecosystem processes, with particular emphasis on boreal forests. Dr. Kolari has been instrumental in long-term measurements at the SMEAR II research station, which has been collecting continuous data for over 30 years. His recent work demonstrates an increasing integration of machine learning techniques with traditional environmental monitoring approaches, reflecting the evolving nature of atmospheric and ecosystem research.
Dr. Kolari's publication record shows consistent productivity with 211 research outputs documented, including significant contributions in 2023-2025. His work spans atmospheric science, ecology, and environmental monitoring, with a strong focus on carbon cycle dynamics, radiation budgets, and ecosystem-atmosphere interactions.
He is actively involved in major research initiatives:
- University profiling funding 7 InterEarth RESET project (2023-2028)
- eLTER PLUS: European long-term ecosystem research infrastructure (2020-2026)
- Previous participation in multiple significant projects including ATM and Hiilinielupuu
As a doctoral programme supervisor, Dr. Kolari contributes to training the next generation of atmospheric scientists while advancing knowledge in critical areas of climate and environmental research.
