Pasi Heikkurinen

Pasi Heikkurinen is a Full Professor of Sustainable Business at LUT University, affiliated with the LUT Business School and the Department of Business Studies. He holds adjunct professorships in Sustainable Economy at the University of Helsinki and in Sustainability and Organizations at Aalto University. He is Chair of the Finnish Society for Environmental Social Science and co-founder of the Sustainable Change Research Network (SUCH) and the Process Studies on Sustainable Economy Research Group (PROSE).

His research centers on the intersection of economy, technology, and culture for sustainability, drawing on philosophies of experience, process thought, and systems theory. He explores transformative models such as degrowth and strongly sustainable societies, aiming to reframe human organization in the context of planetary boundaries. His work is deeply transdisciplinary, integrating insights from organization studies, environmental social science, and philosophical critique.

Pasi Heikkurinen has authored and edited several major academic works, including Degrowth: An Experience of Being Finite (2024), Sustainability Beyond Technology (OUP, 2021), Strongly Sustainable Societies (Routledge, 2019), and Sustainability and Peaceful Coexistence for the Anthropocene (Routledge, 2017). These publications reflect a consistent focus on systemic change, ethical economics, and post-growth futures.

He is actively engaged in scholarly and societal discourse, contributing to the development of sustainable organizational practices and critical sustainability studies. His leadership in research networks underscores his role in building collaborative, interdisciplinary communities focused on transformative change.
