Thouvenin's research focuses on poetics and aesthetics in the classical age, the tradition of Blaise Pascal's works, and memory and autobiography in the 17th century. Her work explores memorial writings, correspondence, epistolary traditions, and the intersection of literary theory with theological lineages at Port-Royal and among the Jesuits. She has conducted significant textual editions of primary sources, particularly Nicolas Fontaine's Mémoires and works by René Rapin.
Her scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with Port-Royal literary traditions across multiple decades. While her earlier work focused on textual editions and foundational studies of Port-Royal memoirs, her recent publications explore broader themes of memory, conscience, and religious writing. Her research shows particular interest in how Port-Royal's literary traditions influenced both contemporary and later periods, with increasing attention to theological dimensions and the relationship between textual production and religious identity.
Among her notable scholarly contributions are critical editions of Nicolas Fontaine's Mémoires, ou Histoire des Solitaires de Port-Royal (2001) and René Rapin's Les Réflexions sur la poétique (2011) and Dissertation sur le poème pastoral (2014). She has also co-edited Pascal's Entretien avec M. de Sacy sur Épictète et Montaigne with Jean Mesnard (1994).
Thouvenin regularly serves on doctoral thesis committees as a pre-examiner and jury member, demonstrating her standing in the academic community. Her teaching includes 17th century authors, research master's level courses, and training for teaching professions.
