Research Interests
Dr Scherrer’s scholarship centres on sustainability science applied to tourism and regional development. His current flagship project is a circular-economy partnership with the Australian Meat Processor Corporation aiming to reduce plastic packaging waste across red-meat supply chains. Earlier work includes sustainable-visitor-capacity assessments on Rottnest Island, alternatives to summiting Wollumbin-Mt Warning that informed a AUD $7.4 million NSW government trail investment, and longitudinal monitoring of visitor experiences at Point Fraser artificial wetland in Perth.
Cross-cutting themes include visitor risk perception in remote alpine and coastal settings, community engagement in protected-area governance, Indigenous tourism business models, and the intersection of digital culture (e.g., selfie-taking) with tourism safety.
