Pascal Fallavollita is an Associate Professor and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from École Polytechnique (2008) and a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University (2002). His career includes a postdoctoral fellowship at Queen’s University and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (2008-2010), followed by leadership in translational medical research at Technische Universität München’s Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures. His work emphasizes AR/VR in medical education, surgical simulation, and assistive technologies for healthy aging.
Research focuses on:
- Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for surgical training and rehabilitation
- Intraoperative imaging and navigation systems
- Smart technologies for aging populations, including telehealth and digital twins
- AI-driven surgical workflow optimization in orthopedics
Publications span medical imaging, surgical robotics, and gerontechnology, with a focus on translational research. Notable contributions include RGBD-X-ray imaging systems and mixed reality tools like the 'Augmented Reality Magic Mirror' for anatomy education.
His lab develops user interfaces for operating rooms and explores VR applications in long-term care facilities. Current work addresses dementia care through creative arts therapies and AI-based cognitive monitoring systems.
