Parul Jain is a Professor and Associate Director for Undergraduate Online Education at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism within Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication. Her work bridges health communication, media studies, and medical education. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Ohio State University, an M.A. in Communication from Wake Forest University, and a PGDBM in Marketing from Fore School of Management, along with a B.S. in Botany from the University of Delhi.
Her research focuses on leveraging traditional and digital media to promote health behavior change, reduce health disparities, and improve patient-provider communication. Key areas include narrative processing effects on health attitudes, cross-cultural medical communication among international physicians, and media representation of mental health. She has published extensively in journals like Journal of Communication, Health Communication, and Patient Education and Counseling.
Teaching interests include public relations campaigns, health communication strategies, quantitative research methods, and the intersection of media with societal health challenges. Recent research trends highlight her focus on global health crises, DEI in workplace health contexts, and media's role in addressing mental health stigma. She has advised multiple studies on pandemic communication, medical portrayals in media, and health literacy initiatives.
