Parker Crutchfield is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Western Michigan University. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Arizona State University and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. His research focuses on Health Care Ethics, Research Ethics, and Moral Psychology, with a particular emphasis on applied ethics, epistemology, and the philosophy of science.
Previously, he served as Assistant Professor of Ethics and inaugural Director of Research at the Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health, contributing to its founding. At Western Michigan University, he engages in clinical ethics consultations, teaches medical students and residents, and researches topics like moral enhancement, chemical restraints, and intergenerational justice. His work bridges theoretical ethics with practical clinical challenges, addressing dilemmas in healthcare policy, genetic editing, and patient autonomy.
Key research themes include the ethical implications of human enhancement technologies, the role of ignorance in moral judgment, and the application of epistemic principles to clinical decision-making.
