Dr. Parisa Ghanouni is an Associate Professor at the School of Occupational Therapy, Department of Pediatrics, Dalhousie University. Her work focuses on marginalized populations including children with autism, elderly individuals, and those with disabilities. She holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from UBC.
Education:
- BSc and MSc from SBUMS
- PhD (Rehabilitation Sciences) from University of British Columbia
Research Interests: Designing client-centered programs for vulnerable populations, tele-rehabilitation using virtual reality, and advancing integrated healthcare transitions. Current projects include community-based participatory research for children with autism and improving socio-emotional skills through technology.
Awards: Recognized at the 2017 International Conference of Virtual Reality for her contributions to assistive technology development.
Teaching & Mentorship: Teaches courses like OCCU 5043 (Program Evaluation) and OCCU 6001 (Neurotherapeutics). Currently accepting MSc(OS), PhD, and Masters students.
Labs/Initiatives: Leads the 'SocialTech ASD Knowledge Translation (KT) Initiative' to develop technology-based social skills programs for children with ASD.
