Professor Pardeep S Jhund is a Professor of Cardiology and Epidemiology at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences. He trained in medicine at the University of Glasgow and completed an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His PhD in cardiovascular epidemiology was conducted under Prof John McMurray. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, followed by a clinical senior lectureship at the University of Glasgow and honorary consultant cardiologist role at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
His research focuses on clinical trials and epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, particularly heart failure. He collaborates with the American Heart Association’s Precision Medicine Platform and explores data science approaches in cardiovascular diseases. He has led analyses of multinational trials, served on executive committees and data safety boards, and chairs adjudication committees for clinical trials. He is an associate editor for the European Journal of Heart Failure and contributes to major textbooks like the ESC Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Prof Jhund has authored over 280 publications, with research covering heart failure pharmacotherapy, monitoring devices, and comorbidity management (e.g., diabetes). His work emphasizes SGLT2 inhibitors (e.g., dapagliflozin), mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and sacubitril/valsartan in heart failure subtypes. He holds FRCP and FESC fellowships and actively participates in the Heart Failure Association of the ESC and American Heart Association.
