Kieran Docherty is a Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health and an Honorary Specialist Registrar at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He leads clinical trials such as EMPRESS-MI and TARTAN-HF, focusing on heart failure mechanisms and treatments, particularly involving SGLT2 inhibitors and neprilysin inhibition. His research integrates clinical trials with biomarker analysis and wearable technology to assess physical activity in heart failure patients.
He completed his PhD investigating neprilysin inhibition's effects on left ventricular remodeling post-myocardial infarction under Professors John McMurray and Mark Petrie. Docherty has co-authored over 100 publications in high-impact journals like the New England Journal of Medicine and holds awards including the ESC Young Clinical Investigator Award (2022). He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and part of the CVCT Forum.
His research groups include Cardiac Remodelling, Cardiovascular Epidemiology, and Heart Failure Pharmacotherapy. Key areas of focus are drug effects on cardiac structure, diabetes-heart failure intersections, and novel screening strategies for early heart failure detection.
