Paramarajan Piranavan

Paramarajan Piranavan, MD is an Assistant Professor and Interim Chief of the Rheumatology Training Program at the University of Kentucky’s Department of Internal Medicine. His work focuses on autoimmune diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with an emphasis on epidemiology, treatment outcomes, and comorbidities. He holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and subspecialty certification in Rheumatology.

Research interests include the intersection of rheumatological conditions with cardiovascular health, pregnancy outcomes in autoimmune patients, and the impact of novel therapies like sirolimus on renal and non-renal SLE manifestations. His recent work addresses disparities in autoimmune disease burden across US states and evaluates drug safety in immunocompromised populations, such as Paxlovid use in rheumatology patients during the pandemic.
