Paola Mayer is a Professor and Head of European and German Studies at the University of Guelph's School of Languages and Literatures. She holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University. Her research focuses on German Romantic literature, Early 20th Century German-Jewish literature, myth and fairy tales, and the uncanny in German culture. She has authored books such as *The Aesthetics of Fear in German Romanticism* (2020) and edited volumes including *Alexander Moritz Frey, Der Mensch und anderen Erzählungen* (2021). Her recent work explores themes like colonialism, fascism, and dehumanization in German literature. She co-edited *Oxford German Studies* special issues on satirical critiques of dehumanization and has contributed to interdisciplinary studies on Romanticism and Jewish identity.
