Panos Ghikas is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education at Canterbury Christ Church University. A London-based composer, improviser, and producer, his work spans concert music, live improvisation, digital media collaborations, film music, and pop production.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Composition, Goldsmiths, University of London
- MA in Composition for Film, London College of Music and Media
- BSc in Physics, University of Patras, Greece
Ghikas's research centers on the intersection of composition and free improvisation. He leads the practice-based Unreal-time project—a live performance interface for audio timeline navigation and gesture re-sequencing—which evolved from an improvisation tool into a compositional method and instrument-building platform. His creative output includes interdisciplinary collaborations across digital media and surrealist pop.
His music features on over 60 releases (Universal, EMI, Lo Recordings, Ghostly International) and has been performed internationally by ensembles including the Arditti Quartet. He has remixed tracks for Gotye, Beck, and Block Party, while his screen compositions appear in global TV programs and commercials via Universal Production Music.
