Pankaj Agarwal holds the RJR Nabisco Professorship in Computer Science and is a Professor of Mathematics at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts and Sciences. He serves as Chair of the Computer Science Department, is a Bass Fellow, and participates as a Faculty Network Member of The Energy Initiative.
His research spans computational geometry, shape analysis, trajectory data, GIS, and sensor networks. Key contributions include approximation algorithms and geometric optimization in computational geometry; representation and matching techniques in shape analysis; segmentation and clustering methods for trajectory data; terrain modeling and ecological applications in GIS; and energy-efficient algorithms for sensor networks in ecological contexts.
