Pamela S. Soltis is a Distinguished Professor and Curator at the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. She serves as Director of the UF Biodiversity Institute and holds affiliations with the UF Genetics Institute, UF Biology Department, and the UF Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology Program. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on plant molecular systematics, phylogenetics, polyploid evolution, and conservation genetics, leveraging natural history collections for ecological and evolutionary insights. Soltis leads the Soltis Lab, which investigates mechanisms of speciation, genomic consequences of polyploidy, and conservation genetics of rare plants. Notable contributions include sequencing the Amborella genome and addressing pandemic preparedness through natural history collections. Awards include the Asa Gray Award, membership in the National Academy of Sciences, and leadership roles in scientific societies. Her work bridges basic research with applied conservation, emphasizing biodiversity preservation and genomic innovation.
