Pamela Karantonis is a Lecturer and Head of Department in Theatre and Performance at Goldsmiths, University of London. With a background in vocal performance and a PhD from the University of New South Wales, she bridges practice and theory through research in voice, identity, and decolonising musical theatre.
- Academic Qualifications: PhD (UNSW), BA (Hons First Class, Adelaide), BA (UNSW)
- Professional Experience: Former opera chorister, Equity member, and voice coach; co-founded the Creative Corporealities Research Group (2016).
Research Interests encompass vocal performance, identity politics, and decolonising performance genres. Her work interrogates the intersection of experimental theatre, voice studies, and cultural authenticity, as seen in her monograph-in-progress and edited volumes like Cathy Berberian: Pioneer of Contemporary Vocality (2014).
Recent Publications include chapters on decolonising curricula, remediated female vocality, and the nexus of modernism and vocality. These reflect her focus on interdisciplinary methodologies, gendered performance, and post-punk aesthetics.
