Dr. Pamela Hanson is a Professor of Biology at Furman University, specializing in cancer biology, membrane physiology, and molecular modeling. She holds a Ph.D. from Emory University and a B.S. from Rhodes College. Her research focuses on anticancer ruthenium complexes and yeast models to study drug mechanisms, particularly KP1019's effects on cellular resistance and membrane physiology. She has received NSF grants for integrating molecular modeling into education and awards for teaching excellence, including the Bob Whetstone Faculty Development Award.
Dr. Hanson’s work bridges scientific research and communication, having authored articles in Metallomics and Current Protocols, and developed collaborative interdisciplinary programs. Her AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship (2015-2016) at the NSF highlights her policy contributions. Research interests include DNA damage responses, drug resistance pathways, and yeast as a model organism for genetic studies.
- Awards: AAAS Mass Media Fellowship, Omicron Delta Kappa Excellence in Teaching Award, AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship
