Pamela DeVries Rini is a Lecturer of Spanish and Placement Coordinator at the University of Virginia's Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. She holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from Calvin College, an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Michigan, and an M.Ed. in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education.
Her professional experience spans over 40 years in education, including teaching Spanish at institutions like the University of Michigan, Longwood University, and Hampden-Sydney College. She also served as a school counselor at Louisa County Middle School and developed Spanish programs for elementary and middle school students at the Peabody School. Recently, she taught Spanish courses at the University of Virginia’s International Center and ran Campamento Buenos Amigos, a summer language camp for children.
Rini’s research interests align with language pedagogy, cultural immersion, and community engagement. She has volunteered with organizations such as SARA (Sexual Assault Resource Agency), PACEM (supporting homeless individuals), and Virginia Organizing (social justice advocacy). Her work emphasizes integrating language learning with real-world applications and social responsibility.
