Pamela Collins is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Interpretation and Translation at Gallaudet University's School of Language, Education, and Culture. She joined the faculty in 2017 after serving as an adjunct instructor since 2011. Her academic background includes an AS in Interpreting (2003), BA in American Sign Language (2007), and MS in Administration and Supervision (2009), all from Gallaudet. A University Honors graduate, she contributed to pivotal archival projects like 'Capturing the Moment' and biographical interviews of African Deaf interpreters.
Her research focuses on systemic structures in interpreting, race equity, and professional scheduling practices. Notable works include An Institutional Ethnography of Interpreter Scheduling and co-authorship of International Sign: Linguistic, Usage, and Status Issues. She actively addresses diversity challenges in interpreting through presentations like 'Getting Out of Your Zip Code' and 'Bringing Scheduling Into View.'
Prof. Collins has served as a staff interpreter for Gallaudet Interpreting Services and Sign Language Associates since 2000. She currently chairs Gallaudet's Practical Experience Coordinator role (2024-2027) and participates in key committees like the Faculty Senate and Maryland State Board of Sign Language Interpreters. Her awards include the Provost Research Excellence Award and Spencer Foundation grants.
