Dr. Pamela Brown is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Missouri, College of Arts and Science. She serves as the Director of Undergraduate Research and previously held the Honors College STEM Faculty Fellow position (2022-24). Her work provides students with course-based undergraduate research opportunities.
- PhD, 2006 - University of Georgia
Dr. Brown’s research focuses on the molecular basis of bacterial morphology, particularly polar growth mechanisms in Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Her lab investigates how bacteria generate specific shapes through zonal peptidoglycan synthesis, combining advanced microscopy, fluorescent protein engineering, and high-throughput sequencing.
Her studies have significant implications for understanding cell shape determination in Alphaproteobacteria, including pathogens and morphologically complex species. The lab’s work aims to bridge gaps between cytoskeletal dynamics and evolutionary advantages of polar growth.
