Pamela B. Pierce is a Professor and Department Chair of Mathematics at The College of Wooster, additionally serving as Department Chair of Statistical and Data Sciences (on leave Spring 2025). She earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Amherst College (1985), M.Ed. from University of Massachusetts (1986), and M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Syracuse University (1988, 1994). Her research focuses on real analysis, with active involvement in the Summer Symposium in Real Analysis, which she has hosted twice. Pierce is recognized for her contributions to mathematics education, including editorial work with Math Horizons and advocacy for inclusive academic environments.
Her career reflects a commitment to undergraduate education, having mentored students through Wooster's thesis-driven liberal arts program. She has received the Trevor Evans Award (2009) for expository writing accessible to students. Beyond academia, her interests include music, travel, and swimming.
Pierce’s professional narrative emphasizes overcoming early academic challenges to pursue a fulfilling career, advocating for resilience and accessibility in mathematics. She teaches across calculus courses and actively supports women in STEM through mentorship and pedagogical innovation.
