Pam Alldred is a Professor of Youth and Community Studies at Nottingham Trent University’s School of Social Sciences, within the Department of Social Work, Care and Community (SWCC). Her role focuses on advancing research and supporting doctoral researchers. Previously, she held positions at Brunel University London and other institutions, specializing in youth work and education. Alldred’s career includes roles such as Reader in Education and Youth Studies, Programme Lead for the Youth & Community Studies MA, and director of the Centre for Youth Work Studies.
Her research spans sexualities, gender politics, parenting, and education for equality, with a focus on qualitative methods and ethical challenges in child-related studies. She has led EU-funded projects such as GAP Work (tackling gender violence) and USVreact (sexual violence in universities). Notable awards include the Ken Darby-Dowman Memorial Prize (2014) for supporting first-in-family students and BERA’s International Fellowship.
Alldred has supervised over 10 PhDs and examined over 30, including international candidates. She actively contributes to professional development through editorial roles in journals like Sex Education and Feminist Review, and co-convenes the British Sociological Association’s New Materialisms Study Group. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, with projects involving global partners in Spain, Italy, Greece, Serbia, and Hungary.
Key publications include co-authoring Sociology and the New Materialism (2016) and editing the Handbook of Youth Work Practices (2018). Her research often bridges theory and practice, addressing societal challenges through innovative methodologies and policy recommendations.
