Dr. Pablo Jost is a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Research, Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media since October 2024. Previously, he served as Acting Professor of "Empirical Communication Studies" at the Institute of Communication Studies and Media Research, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from October 2023 to September 2024. He has maintained a long-standing position as Research Associate at the Teaching and Research Department for Political Communication of Prof. Dr. Marcus Maurer at the Institute of Journalism, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2014.
His academic background includes a Doctorate in Philosophy from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (2022) with a dissertation on "Popularity Indicators in Political Communication Research," a Master's degree in Public Communication from Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2010-2013), and a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Political Science from the same institution (2007-2010).
Dr. Jost's research focuses on political communication, with particular emphasis on communication of protest movements, digital media change (especially public user communication), media effects research, and empirical communication methods. His work examines how political actors and movements utilize digital platforms, with recent attention on Telegram as a channel for radical and extremist communication. He investigates the mediatization of political communication in online social networks, media coverage of crises including the Ukraine war and refugee crisis, and evolving political campaigning in digital environments.
His recent publications reveal a clear trajectory toward studying digital political communication, with increasing focus on radical and extremist movements on platforms like Telegram, social media's impact on political mobilization, and the role of emerging technologies such as generative AI and short-form video platforms in political contexts. His methodological approach combines empirical analysis with innovative digital research techniques.

His work involves interdisciplinary collaborations examining digital political communication, particularly through the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society.
