Pablo F. Gómez is an Associate Professor of History and the History of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, with a joint appointment in Medical History & Bioethics. His research focuses on the history of knowledge, science, and corporeality in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the African diaspora. He holds a PhD in History of Medicine and Latin American History from Vanderbilt University (2010), an MD from CES University (1994), and training as an orthopaedic surgeon in Colombia.

His research interests include early modern epistemologies, medical pluralism, and the intersection of race and medicine. Major works include The Experiential Caribbean (2018), awarded the William H. Welch Medal, and The Gray Zones of Medicine (2021). Current projects explore value systems and corporeality in the 18th-century Caribbean.

He advises graduate students on topics spanning colonial medicine, slavery, and diasporic health practices. Ongoing projects investigate quantification of human bodies in slave markets and the materiality of Caribbean knowledge systems.
