Gregg Mitman is the Vilas Research and William Coleman Professor of History, Medical History, and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As an award-winning author, filmmaker, and teacher, his work bridges the history of science, medicine, and the environment in the United States and globally. His research explores the intersections of ecology, health, and power, particularly in the context of global health, environmental humanities, and the legacies of colonialism.

As an advisor, Mitman has guided PhD students in projects spanning the history of rubber plantations in Vietnam, digital adaptation in the Anthropocene, paleo-environmental perspectives, Cold War mathematics, American conservation history, evolutionary biology, ornithological expeditions in Colombia, tropical biology in the Caribbean, Arctic science, rural development via 4-H clubs, and food safety in the 20th century United States.
