PATRICIA DIAZ RODRIGUEZ

PATRICIA DIAZ RODRIGUEZ is a Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, affiliated with the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology. She leads the ID-FARMA research group focused on R&D in dosage forms and drug delivery systems, and is part of the Materials Institute (iMATUS) and Strategic Grouping in Materials (AEMAT). Her doctoral thesis (2014) investigated biomorphic silicon carbides as drug-carrying ceramics for bone implants.

Her research spans nanostructured drug delivery systems, biomaterials engineering, and tissue regeneration. She pioneers work in stimuli-responsive hydrogels, lipid nanoparticles, and 3D-printed scaffolds for applications in osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and cancer therapy. Her innovations include smart thermosensitive hydrogels, mannose-functionalized lipid carriers, and extracellular vesicle-based gene therapy platforms.

Her recent articles (2023-2025) highlight advancements in: bone regeneration via stem cell secretome engineering, AI-driven nanomedicine design, and dual-action antibacterial/wound healing scaffolds. She also explores interdisciplinary topics like AI in pharmacy education and circadian rhythm impacts on osteoarthritis.

Her work integrates biomaterials science with clinical needs, emphasizing translational applications such as anti-biofilm ceramics, targeted cancer therapies, and personalized drug delivery systems. Collaborations span material science, bioengineering, and clinical medicine to address unmet medical challenges in orthopedics and oncology.
