MARIANA LANDIN PEREZ

Mariana Landín Pérez is a Full Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), holding affiliations with the Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, and the Materials Institute (iMATUS). She leads the ID-FARMA research group focused on drug delivery systems and pharmaceutical formulation. With a PhD in Pharmacy (1991) and postdoctoral training in the UK, she has been a principal investigator on numerous national and EU-funded projects since 1998.

Her research integrates pharmaceutical materials science with artificial intelligence, emphasizing drug delivery systems, nanotechnology, and biomaterials for bone regeneration. Key areas include cyclodextrin-based supramolecular systems, AI-driven formulation optimization, and hydrogel engineering for targeted therapies. She has pioneered AI applications in drug development, collaborating with industry partners like Bayer and Innocore Pharmaceuticals.

Publications span over 100 JCR-indexed articles, including seminal work in cyclodextrin systems and AI-informed drug design. Supervised PhD students have achieved 'Cum Laude' distinctions and international recognition. Current activities include coordinating the USC’s Research-Oriented Master’s in Drug Development and advancing 3D-printed biomaterials for tissue engineering.

Her work bridges academia and industry through technology transfer initiatives, including drug formulation services for pharmaceutical companies. Research interests also extend to plant biotechnology, applying machine learning to optimize in vitro plant propagation and metabolite production.
