P.K. Chemweno is an Assistant Professor in Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Twente’s Faculty of Engineering Technology, affiliated with the Department of Design, Production and Management (ET-DPM) and the Advanced Manufacturing, Sustainable Products & Energy Systems (ET-DPM-AMSPES) group. His research spans maintenance engineering, robotics, and humanitarian applications.
- Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (KU Leuven, 2016)
His research focuses on transitioning traditional manufacturing to the 'Industry of the Future' through automation and robotics, with additional expertise in safety hazard assessment for collaborative robots and optimizing clinical care pathways for stroke patients. He co-founded the Humanitarian Engineering Action, applying engineering solutions to poverty alleviation in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Jordan, and Lebanon.
Scientific honors include:
- 2018 Laureate of the European Federation of Maintenance Society and Salvelti Foundation
- Belgium winner and nominee for Ph.D. thesis excellence award
