P. Joshua Griffin is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, jointly appointed in the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs. His research focuses on Indigenous ecologies, climate change, and environmental justice, with an emphasis on Arctic Indigenous communities and food sovereignty.
Education: PhD in Anthropology (University of Washington, 2019), M.Div in Theology and Religious Studies (Harvard University, 2009), B.A. in Environmental Studies and Religion (Dartmouth College, 2004).
Research interests include Indigenous sovereignty, participatory digital methods for cultural heritage, coastal dynamics, and faith-based environmental movements. He teaches courses such as 'Indigenous Ecologies and Climate Change' and collaborates with Indigenous communities on climate adaptation strategies.
Recent work explores climate-induced migration and environmental planning, often using ethnographic and participatory methodologies. He is affiliated with the Ocean Nexus Indigenous Ocean Ecologies Fellows program.
