Prof. Dr. Ozcan Karahan is a full Professor of Macroeconomics at the Department of Economic Policy, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Balikesir University. He currently serves as the Head of the Department and has held administrative roles including Vice Dean. His career spans over 25 years, progressing from Assistant Professor (1999-2006) to Associate Professor (2007-2012) before achieving full Professor status in 2013.
Research Interests: Prof. Karahan focuses on Macroeconomic Policy Design, Financial Capital Flows, Economic Growth Determinants, Inflation Dynamics, and Innovation Policy. His work emphasizes the interplay between international capital movements, monetary policy frameworks, and structural transformation in emerging economies like Türkiye. He has contributed significantly to understanding the role of innovation ecosystems in overcoming the 'middle-income trap' and designing post-Keynesian monetary frameworks.
Publications & Academic Contributions: With 48 indexed articles, 24 authored/edited books, and 87 conference papers, his scholarship covers topics such as FDI spillover effects, monetary policy transmission, and knowledge-based economy indicators. Notable works include analyses of Türkiye's current account sustainability and the causal relationships between credit expansion and economic growth.
Teaching & Mentorship: He has supervised 12 PhD and Master's theses since 2013, advising on topics ranging from financial capital movements to innovation policy frameworks. Courses taught include Advanced Macroeconomics, International Capital Movements, and Monetary Policy Analysis.
Administrative Leadership: Beyond research, he led institutional projects like 'Extending the National Innovation System Approach' (2016-2016) and contributed to TÜBİTAK-funded research. His academic service includes organizing international conferences on European economies and innovation policy.
