Dr. Oybek Madiyev is a Lecturer in Comparative Politics at the University of Kent's School of Politics and International Relations. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent (2014), an MPhil in Politics from the University of Sheffield, and an LLM in Comparative Studies of Politics and Administration in Asia from Kyushu University, Japan. His research focuses on comparative political economy, political history, and international relations, particularly examining Uzbekistan's foreign policy post-Soviet collapse and the influence of major powers in Eurasia.
Teaching Responsibilities include modules such as Post-Communist Russia, Europe and the World, East European Politics, and The European Union in the World. He actively contributes to academic networks, serving as a key organizer of the London Central Asia Research Network.
Research Interests span International Relations, Critical International Political Economy, and translational relations, with a focus on energy policy, FDI strategies of global powers (China, Russia, US, Japan, EU), and geopolitical dynamics in Eurasia.
