Dr. Owen Benton is a Lecturer in Computational Condensed Matter at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. His research focuses on frustrated quantum systems, particularly quantum spin liquids and their experimental signatures. He holds academic positions at the Centre for Chemical Research and the Centre for Experimental and Applied Physics.
Education and Career:
- B.Sc./M.Sc. from University of Warwick and University of Bristol
- Research roles at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Japan), RIKEN (Japan), and Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (Germany)
Research Interests: Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Physics, Quantum Magnetism, Spin Liquids, Frustrated Systems. His work explores phenomena arising from many-body interactions, such as quantum entanglement in spin liquids and phase competition in frustrated magnets.
Teaching:
- CHE 209: Introductory Programming for Chemists
- CHE 709P: Introductory Programming for Drug Discovery
Research Contributions: His recent publications analyze quantum spin ice, dipolar-octupolar systems, and fracton spin liquids. Collaborations include experimental groups using neutron scattering and spectroscopic techniques.
