Professor Owain Jones is Emeritus Professor of Environmental Humanities at Bath Spa University, where he co-founded the Research Centre for Environmental Humanities. His interdisciplinary research examines nature-society relations through frameworks of place, memory, and more-than-human worlds, with particular focus on tidal landscapes, trees, and childhood environments.
His theoretical contributions include pioneering work on non-representational theory in geography, affective ecologies, and hydrocitizenship. Fieldwork encompasses estuarine environments, forest landscapes, and urban ecologies, often using creative methodologies like deep mapping and participatory art collaborations.
Professor Jones' publications consistently bridge environmental philosophy and cultural geography, with recent work critiquing anthropocentrism in urban planning, exploring multispecies personhood, and examining everyday ecocide. His collaborative projects include AHRC-funded initiatives connecting communities through water narratives.
He supervises practice-based PhDs and leads research teams investigating how emotional attachments to place can inform sustainable environmental practices.
