Dr Ovokeroye Abafe is a Lecturer in Environmental Sciences at Brunel University London's College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2015), an MSc in Chemistry from the University of Ibadan (2010), and a BSc in Industrial Chemistry from Delta State University (2006). His career spans roles as a Marie Curie Individual Fellow at the University of Birmingham and Senior Research Scientist at the Agricultural Research Council- Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute, where he managed South Africa's National Residue Monitoring Programme.
Dr Abafe specializes in identifying emerging and legacy contaminants (e.g., PFAS, flame retardants) using advanced chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques. His research focuses on human exposure assessment via 3D organ models, biomonitoring of persistent pollutants, and environmental risk assessment of microplastics and pharmaceuticals.
Recent publications highlight his work on PFAS in water matrices, dermal absorption of flame retardants in microplastics, antimicrobial resistance dynamics, and contaminant monitoring in food and biological tissues. His work combines analytical chemistry with public health implications.
