Outi Autti is a Senior Research Fellow at the Giellagas Institute within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oulu, holding a PhD and the distinguished title of Docent in Cultural Sociology from the University of Lapland. Her academic profile bridges environmental, historical, and sociological disciplines through critical examination of human-environment interactions and societal transformations.
Her research program focuses on environmental sociology, human geography, and migration studies, with particular emphasis on the cultural and social impacts of environmental change, environmental trauma, and the human-environment relationship. She conducts in-depth investigations into the social and cultural history of the Lapland War and postwar reconstruction, analyzing refugee experiences and narrative contexts through lenses of power relations, inequality, and marginalization. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates rural education frameworks to examine community resilience in northern regions.
